A Small Tool that Makes a Big Difference
Sometimes I want to show people what's on my screen. Other times, people would like to show me what's on their screen. Most of the time, we're nowhere near each other. Join.me solves this location problem...sadly, it doesn't involve teleportation or telepathy.
I've been looking for the perfect screen sharing tool for a while now. I've used GoToMeeting and Skype's screensharing tools in the past, but they fell a little short of what I wanted. The resolution wasn't all that great, and there were too many steps for people to go through to ensure a silky-smooth experience. In both cases, there was just a clunky feel to them. I just wanted something that was easy to use and didn't have any of the hangups that were frustrating me.
Sometime last week, I found join.me. It had everything I wanted. Finding join.me and realizing that it was perfect for me prompted me to go on twitter and say:
Holy cow! @joinme is such a cool screen-sharing tool, if it were a humanoid female, I would treat her to a milkshake & discuss courtship. ;)
Yes. I know. That was silly of me, but you don't know how jazzed I was about this!
Well, join.me has helped me resolve some technical issues that family members have had, and it is going to come in handy when it comes to interacting with modernactive clients.
When I want to show someone a presentation that's on my screen, I just go to join.me, click on share my screen. That's it on my side. For the people I'm presenting to, all I have to do is e-mail them a simple numerical code provided by join.me. They, in turn, go to join.me, click on "Join", and type in the number. From there, we're both hooked up and they can see my screen. Nothing clunky. No having to sign up.
On the other side of it. Someone can show me their screen, then grant me permission to access their computer. I can move their mouse around and walk them through the solution.
I'm pleased.
